Honorable Kevin Smith

Sedgwick County District Court Judge Kevin Smith is assigned to juvenile court where he presides over juvenile offender and child in need of care cases. He is also an adjunct professor at Friends University, where he teaches criminal procedure to future law enforcement officers. He has published several law review articles on juvenile justice and the foster care system. Before Governor Brownback appointed him to the bench in 2015, Judge Smith practiced law for sixteen years. He is a former prosecutor, business law, family law, and criminal defense attorney. He graduated cum laude in 1999 from Regent University School of Law where he served on law review and clerked with the American Center for Law and Justice.
